Mid-October 2021

Rector on the Run!  Thank you to everyone who supported Pouya.  Having completed the 38-mile Downslink Ultra Marathon last weekend in 6:10:47, he then ran 2 miles in Fetcham on Monday, in order to raise funds for the church hall so we can replace heavy tables and chairs, upgrade the creche, build storage, double glaze and more.   It’s not too late to sponsor.  To hear Pouya’s personal thank you, and for more information visit https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/rector-on-the-run

Women’s Breakfast – Poppy Making Workshop:  Sat 23 Oct and 6 Nov – PREBOOKING ESSENTIAL so we are not overcrowded and we can plan for catering.  Following on from the success of Heritage Open Day, Grace & Cable have offered to hold two sessions to knit or crochet a poppy.  We thought it would be a lovely idea to combine this with Women’s Breakfast.  You are welcome to bring your own hooks and needles, wool is supplied.  Each session will start at 9.30am, and a donation for breakfast would be most welcome.  Any balance left will be donated to The British Legion.  Pre-booking is essential as there is a maximum of 40 per session.  Please sign up on MyChurchSuite or contact the Parish Office on 01372 375000 or email office@stmarysfetcham.org.uk

Homemade Stall and Second-hand Books: Sun 7 Nov:  Last month’s stalls made another great sum of £220, thank you for your support.  We will be starting to think about Christmas presents at the November stalls, so make sure you pay them a visit in the hall between the 9.30 and 11.15 services whilst you are enjoying a coffee and a chat.

Bereavement Service – Sun 7 Nov, 3pm: We will be having our “annual” Bereavement Service, when we remember our loved ones who have died, giving thanks for them and our happy memories whilst acknowledging our sadness.  The service will be followed by tea in the hall.  Nearer the time there will be cards at the back of church on which you may, if you wish, write the names of people you would like to be remembered by name during the service.  Now restrictions imposed by the pandemic have eased our Bereavement Café has resumed in the hall on the first Wednesday of every month from 10.00 – 11.30.  This is not a counselling service but the opportunity to share confidentially with people who will listen, whilst enjoying coffee and cake.

Remembrance Service – Sun 14 Nov: We hope to hold our usual Act of Remembrance in the Memorial Gardens at the end of the church drive, followed by a service in church.  We may limit the numbers in church so please watch out for further details on whether prebooking is required.

To sign up and for more details call Lesley on 07856 193871 or email lesley.o@eastwickroadchurch.co.uk

Virtual London Marathon:  Chris Rickard completed the virtual marathon on Sunday 3 October, taking 8hrs 38 minutes which was 2hrs 20 minutes faster than last year.  This is because conditions were much better than last year when he had to wear heavy walking boots and got soaked through.  He was also much fitter after two weeks of walking and scrambling in Skye.  Chris wishes to say thanks to everybody who sponsored him.
