Preaching series – Knowing Jesus (Called to Worship)

Covid Update :  Thank for your continued support over the last few months.  Following the very recent government updated guidance on Covid, we feel that it is really important to increase our precautions in church in order to protect the whole church family.  We are therefore asking that:

  • Everyone wears a mask at all times, if at all possible, during church services. If, for any reason, you are unable to wear a mask, we would ask that you would please resist the urge to sing without the use of a mask.
  • You make good use of the hand sanitiser as you enter church and that you apply more before receiving communion.
  • You are encouraged to take a lateral flow test before joining any church event as a way of trying to restrict the spread of this virus.
  • We will be continuing to ensure that windows and doors remain open. Please wrap up warm or make use of the blankets available.

We thank you for your co-operation and patience during this increasingly difficult period.  Janet and Jennie – Churchwardens

Help yourself to a postcard in church; or take a poster for your window!  Remember to prebook any of our Christmas Services.  Visit our What’s On page on the new website or pick up a postcard in church and email or call the parish office

Homemade Stall and Secondhand Books
:  Sun 5 Dec – This Sunday is our last Homemade Stall of the year – our Christmas extravaganza!  Please do come along and browse for Christmas present ideas.  This year has been difficult for the people working at The Centre for Urban Mission in Nairobi.  Let’s make this a really good stall so that we can send money to CUM for the homework clubs and apprenticeships.  We have Christmas treats, decorations for the tree and some beautiful hand-crafted items.  If you have ideas for something homemade that you would like to donate, we’ll be delighted to see there, in the hall between the 9.30 and 11.15 services.

We also have our Christmas Raffle, with prizes on show. The draw will be at the Thursday Christmas Lunch on 16th December – tickets cost £1.  Win beautiful prizes made by Penny Day, or a Christmas Hamper, or a gorgeous hand made shawl and lots more!

We also pray for Simon Peter’s complete recovery from Covid, for fair distribution of vaccines – Only 5% of Kenya’s population has so far been fully vaccinated and for Omicron Variant of Concern to be mild & sensitive to vaccination, as it is inevitable that it will spread quickly through Kenya.

Space for Peace and Tranquillity: Mon 6- Sat 11 Dec – We invite you to come and slow down, escape, to be, to reflect and to pray in silence.  The Lady Chapel in will be open between 9am and 4pm.  For those who like to be led into silence: Wendy will lead a reflection on Monday at 10 am and on Wednesday at 2 pm, and Jane will read a Christmassy story on Thursday at 12pm and on Friday at 2 pm.  We wish you a wonder-full advent!

Christmas Crafternoon: Sat 11 Dec, 2-4pm:  We’ll be making Christmas Kissing Balls whilst enjoying a cuppa and chat.  Please bring scissors or secateurs – all other materials, demonstration and assistance provided.  Pre-booking essential as spaces limited to 30 people at each event.  Suggested donation of £5, inc coffee and cake.  Any remaining balance will be put towards the charities that St Mary’s supports at Christmas.

Collecting Presents for Christmas:  We are collecting presents once again for four local causes.  Please ensure gifts are brand new. They can be given wrapped or unwrapped and by Mon 13 Dec:

1) For the children of our local CAP (Christians Against Poverty) Mole Valley clients

2) For clients of The Meeting Room

3) For Surrey Vulnerable Teenagers

4) Tescos or Sainsbury gift tokens for B@titude.

There is never any obligation to give presents, but if you would like to, we will ensure that your gifts are wrapped and delivered to these four excellent causes, in time for Christmas.  Do ask at the parish office or Sarah Mackay for details and ideas.

Thursday Service Christmas Lunch:  Thurs 16 Dec – The Thursday service coffee morning group are looking forward to their Christmas Lunch.  Spaces are limited and prebooking essential.  Please speak to Jacky Breadmore if you would like to attend.  Note that there is no Hearing clinic that day!

A Christmas Afternoon (2).png

A Christmas Afternoon:  Sun 19 Dec, 3-5pm – The youth of St Mary’s would love to invite you to A Christmas Afternoon at the Church hall!  It’s a cafe-style afternoon with various things to enjoy such as A Christmas Jumper Auction (for charity), live music by the young people, festive refreshments, things to make, plus a lovely festive atmosphere to bring a friend or your family to!  So whether you would like to just sit and catch up with a friend over a mince pie or bid on a Christmas jumper to give to your nephew at Christmas then do come along…. It’s free but please do book a place via Churchsuite or email

Christmas Jumpers! – As part of ‘A Christmas Afternoon’ we are going to be auctioning Christmas jumpers for a local charity. If you have a used (or unused!) Christmas jumper (any size) you would like to donate for the auction then it would be so gratefully received! If so please contact Nathan: – Thank you so much!

Oakfield Winter Wonderland – Can you help?: 18/19/20th Dec – The school are holding a big fundraiser with an ice rink, a food court, a Christmas market, Santa’s grotto, and a craft tent etc.  This event will be open to the whole community and they would like to bring families together at this event and make it really special as last year was so rubbish for many people.  However, they are asking if anyone can help with manpower, be that helping on stalls and/or marshalling.  If you can help for an hour or so please contact Susannah French on

Transform Housing Support – Transform a life this Christmas.  We have once again been unable to host the annual Carol Service which benefits this charity.  They provide housing and support to over 1,500 homeless and vulnerable people each year.  This year they aim to make a real difference to as many people as possible.  If you would like to help visit :

Would you like to get involved in a service?: The rota elves are beginning to sort put together helpers for 2022.  Would you like to join the reading team, perhaps sidesmen, welcome, coffee or the tech teams.  Please speak to the Pouya, Julie, Churchwardens or Karen in the office.  They look forward to hearing from you!
