Mid-May 2022

Message from Martin Roberts: Wendy and I were overwhelmed with the support and prayers we received from the St Mary’s church family.  We are very grateful for the love and support we received.

Umbrella Stand wanted: Shirley Bevis is looking for a stand of some sort in which to put her walking sticks when she is indoors. If you have anything that she could use please let the her know.

Message from Louise Bright : Thank You so much for the wonderful send-off nearly a month ago now and for the parting gifts.  I’m missing you all very much.  Tim and I are gradually settling in and are looking forward to some long awaited leisure time walking, watching the wildlife and exploring.  I’ve attended the church in Storrington and hope to go regularly.  St Mary’s, Fetcham, will be a hard act to follow.  Love to you all and God Bless, xx

Hospitality – Please can you help?  We’re sure you’re aware that Pouya’s Archbishops Church Football Team will be in Fetcham on Friday 27 May for their football match the following day.  They are having supper in the hall on the Friday evening and breakfast the following morning – and that’s where we need your help!  Our own lovely Dean, who’s a chef, is cooking supper on the Friday but isn’t available on the Saturday for breakfast.  Could you please help at either or both – preparing the hall and tables, serving food, cooking bacon butties for breakfast, clearing away, etc?

Also, on Wednesday evening, 15 June, the Deanery Synod meeting is being held at St Mary’s, c60 people.  Could you please help getting the hall ready / baking cakes / cookies / savoury biscuits / preparing and serving drinks / clearing away, etc?

Do remember the importance of hospitality and that many hands make light work!  Please get in touch with Corinne on 01372 800885, corinne@stmarysfetcham.org.uk  or via the church office.

Bed for the ABC Team:  Thank you to everyone who has offered a bed for the members of the ABC the night.  We now have enough beds, and will be in touch again to clarify names and arrangements in due course.

Afternoon Teas – Sat 4 and 25 June:   These social get-togethers for the senior community are proving very popular with 40+ people attending in May.  We are now taking bookings for June, the first of which also celebrates the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  Please book either via the Parish Office of go to the What’s On page of our website.

Platinum Jubilee Flowers – Thurs 2 – Sun 5 June:   St Mary’s flower team will present ‘A Royal Garden Party’ to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  On Thurs 2 June there will be refreshments outside the church between 2 and 4pm.  Admission is free so do come along to see the beautiful flower display.  If anyone is feeling creative and would like to join us or would like to help in any way, please contact Liz Rosser landgrosser@outlook.com

Homemade Stall – Sun 5 June:  If you could find the time to do some baking for any of the future stalls, we will happily find someone to buy them!  Thank you to all those who donate plants, crafts and bake regularly.   If you would like to join the team for an hour or two on the first Sunday of each month, do please have a word with one of the team:  Mary King, Liz Rosser, Sue McKinlay, Margaret Welch, Jan Hall and Sarah Mackay.

The Well – Sun 26 Jun, 6-7pm in The Lady Chapel : The Well is a pause at the end of one week and before the beginning of the next.  It is a space to simply say “Here I am” to God.  A time to allow your heart to open towards that invisible but ever present author of life, and to drink from the living water that meets your needs and satisfies forever.  Within the Well there is music, scripture, reflection, prayer and silence.  It is a safe place where all are welcome.  The Well is led by Nanas Callander and Brigitte Furze.   Please do contact the Parish Office with any questions you may have.

Living in Love and Faith Course – 5 weeks starting Tues 14 June:  If you haven’t had an opportunity to respond to the email invitation sent out on Mon 9 May, and you wish to find out more or to attend, please go to MyChurchSuite or contact the Parish Office.

Community Coffee Shop – Mondays 10-11.30am: St Mary’s Community Coffee Shop is now open in the church hall every Monday (not Bank Holidays) running alongside the Community Fridge.  We are selling coffee, a selection of teas, individually wrapped biscuits and delicious cake from COOK.  The team look forward to welcoming you soon whether you are visiting just the coffee shop, or fridge, or both! Please let Julie Partridge know if you would like to join the Monday team, julie@stmarysfetcham.org.uk

Help Needed for Fetcham Festival – Sat 11 June, 12-4pm:  We very much hope to have a presence at the forthcoming community event.  We plan to offer a craft table, the human fruit machine and second-hand book stall (happy to receive more books if you would like to bring them to the church hall).  We can only run these stalls if we have a team of willing volunteers to help on the day.  Please let Karen know if you are able to spare an hour or maybe two to help, or if you have a gazebo we can borrow to protect us from the blistering sunshine!  It really is a great opportunity to have a presence at this community event.

Kitchen Food Caddy:  Has anyone got a spare food caddy box they are willing to donate to the church hall kitchen?  Sarah’s wormery is very much enjoying being fed with out food scraps, but the boxes are looking a bit beaten up.  Thank you
