    Week of Prayer for Christian Unity –
     18-25 January 2023:  Churches Together in Bookham are marking the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity by providing a daily opportunity to meet together for Bible reading and prayer, meeting  at 8.30 am each morning for about half an hour, except on Saturday when we will have prayers at 9am.

    The Community Coffee Shop BOGOF:  Throughout January and February 2023 we have a special offer of a free drink when you buy filter coffee, tea or hot chocolate, so why not come along with a friend and have a catch up!   The team looks forward to welcoming you!

    THE ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY’S FOOTBALL TEAM is coming back to Fetcham 20-21 January, next weekend!  They’ll be getting together for a practice in Dorking on Friday afternoon, 20 Jan, coming to St Mary’s for supper and some social time at Fetcham Park House, overnight with host families, breakfast with the WLTDO team on Saturday morning then off to Surrey Sports Park, Richard Meyjes Rd, Guildford GU2 7AD for their match against a London Interfaith Team, kick-off at 12.30 – come and support them!   Thanks to everybody providing hospitality!

    Life Group – Fri 20 Jan, 10-11:30am:  This is a fortnightly group for women of all ages.  It’s a great opportunity to make new friends, chat about issues relating to our everyday lives and think about how our faith may help us.  It is usually held in the church hall at various times, unless shown otherwise, with crèche facilities should you need them.  This session the Life Group is being treated to an informative and historical tour around St Mary’s church.

    Afternoon Tea – Sat 28 Jan, 3-4.30pm:  We are taking bookings for the January get together.  If you know someone in the senior community who you think would like to come to meet new friends, please tell them about this popular social.  Leaflets are in church or the hall, or on our website: https://stmarysfetcham.org.uk/whats-on/

    Women’s Breakfast – Sat 4 Feb, 9:30-11am:  We are once again delighted to invite ladies to our Women’s Breakfast, and welcome back Epsom & Ewell Refugee Network together with a guest speaker from the Ukrainian community to talk about her first hand experience.  Along with our speaker we will offer the usual delicious breakfast for a suggested donation of £5.  Please sign up here or contact the Parish Office.  Numbers are limited to 60 places so please booked early to avoid disappointment.  As always, we look forward to meeting old friends and making new ones!

    Christmas Flowers Thank You
    : Liz would like to thank everyone for the wonderful flower arrangements that decorated the church at Christmas – she hopes you agree that they made quite an impact.  Liz is always looking for more people to come and join the team. If you’d like to try flower arranging in church, she would love to hear from you – full training and advice given.  Contact the Parish Office to get connected or speak to Liz directly.

    Homemade & Secondhand Book Stall – Sun 5 Feb, 10:40-11:30am:  Do please donate homemade goods and baking to our February Homemade Stall.  Pots of bulbs and house plants will be welcome too.  As usual we will have a Christmas present amnesty: if you were given a new Christmas present that you just can’t find a space for, do bring it along and someone might like to buy it, in return for a donation to Centre for Urban Mission in Nairobi, supporting Homework Clubs and Apprenticeships in Nairobi’s slums.  This is the only time of year you can donate something that is not homemade. New presents only please. See you then!

    Welcome Breakfast – Sun 19 Feb, 9-11am:  We are delighted to warmly welcome all newcomers to a continental style breakfast at 3A The Ridgeway.  New members of our church family from all three Sunday services will get a chance to meet each other and chat with some St Mary’s regulars.  Children welcome. Please park at the church and come across when you are ready either after or before your usual service.  To get an idea of numbers please sign up here, but you are welcome to just turn up on the day too!

    Bothy Working Party – Sat 25 Feb, 10-12noon :  promoting the benefits of community gardening together.  You are welcome to pop along to the garden located just by St Mary’s exit gate onto Lower Road, where you are welcome to come along for a chat and get involved if you’d like to.  Free refreshments are provided and no gardening experience needed.   However, stout footwear and gloves are recommended.  To find out more visit our Community page.

    World Day of Prayer – Fri 3 Mar:  World Day of Prayer is an international, inter-church organisation which enables us to hear the thoughts of women from all parts of the world: their hopes, concerns and prayers.  This year is prepared by Taiwan.   There are two services locally that you are invited to attend plus staying for refreshments afterwards:

    10:30am –  Church of the Holy Spirit, Fetcham

    7:30pm   –  St Lawrence’s, Effingham. 

    Rota Unavailability Feb-May:  Please remember to enter your unavailability on ChurchSuite for Feb to May inclusive.  This is extremely helpful when compiling the next lot of rotas.  Things may well change but it’s easy to swap, but if you know of holidays or diary commitments already it makes it much easier to see any clashes.

    The Surrey Appropriate Adult Service (SAAVS) offers support to vulnerable adults and young people who find themselves detained in Police custody. They are seeking more volunteers and could use your help.  The role of the Appropriate Adult is not to provide legal advice but to offer impartial support and be a friendly face in the absence of a family member or carer to people who may be feeling frightened, bewildered, and confused in an unfamiliar situation.  To find out more visit SAAVS.

    Lunchtime music at St Mary’s Stoke D’Abernon : All concerts will be from 1-2pm on Thursdays and there will be retiring collections to meet the cost of the concerts.

    Library Giveaway Day at All Saints, Guildford
    :  All Saints’ Church are closing their library.  It has become apparent that people have moved away from the physical book and mostly head online for their resources.  They also have structural issues in the library area of the church and will need to undertake a significant building project.  If you’d like any of the books, many of which were formerly part of the Diocesan Resource Library, come along to our book giveaway day on Saturday 28th January from 11am to 4pm.  Books will be available to take on a first come first served basis.  Although the books will be free, we’d very much appreciate donations towards our building project.  Refreshments will be served whilst you browse!  To see what books might be available, please have a browse of the online catalogue which can be found here: https://allsaintschurchgfd.org.uk/library/online-catalogue/.  The church is in the centre of Onslow Village and there’s a map available on our website: https://allsaintschurchgfd.org.uk/contact-us/

    Diocesan Calendar of Prayer for January.  This month we pray for the deaneries of Aldershot and Cranleigh.

    Please pray for the ACTS’ Puppet Assemblies group as they prepare to visit local primary schools throughout January and February.

    We continue to pray for those who are unwell:  John Cooper, Lynn Alsop, Elaine Mead, Vera Cameron, Gill Hanson and Fay Burroughs.

    Please also pray for June Williams and Mavis Lake in residential care.

    In December they fulfilled 472 vouchers to feed 1447 people.  There was a sharp increase in first-time users at the Foodbank centres. Their December sessions were the busiest we have ever seen.

    They URGENTLY NEED:  Toilet Rolls, Female deodorant, Shower Gel
    Shampoo, Conditioner, Shaving Gel / Foam, Adult toothbrushes, Adult toothpaste, Household cleaning, Washing up liquid, Washing powder, Nappies in the following sizes: 5, 5+ and 6+, Long life sponge puddings

    They would also appreciate any bags for life/very strong bags/Christmas Bags for Life

    Please, no more of these items: non-dairy milk, peanut butter, baby wash.

    Please use our supermarket donation points or bring donations directly to us at Epsom & Ewell Foodbank, Good Company Hub, behind West Ewell Primary School, Ruxley Lane, Ewell KT19 0JG

    They are open for donations Monday – Friday, 9am-2pm
