King’s Coronation Weekend
Service – Everyone is welcome to join us for a time of music and reflection ahead of the King’s Coronation. Come and pray for him and the nation on Friday 5th May from 8pm. There is a flexibility to the evening, so feel free to come and go as you wish. We look forward to being together to worship and pray for King Charles III and the nation.
Community Picnic – Sun 7 May, 1-4:30pm. Fetcham Park House are very kindly opening their grounds for a picnic in their gardens to celebrate the King’s Coronation. Please bring your own chairs, rugs and picnics and enjoy the grounds. The house will be closed that day, so toilets will only be available at St Mary’s. Tea and cake will be available in the church hall. All children under 18yrs must be supervised by an adult. No pets allowed. Pick up a leaflet in church or visit our website. To help us get an idea of numbers, please sign up: https://stmarysfetcham.org.uk/whats-on/
‘Flowers fit for a King’ – Fri 5 to Mon 8 May, 9:30am-4pm: A display of flowers will be on show in St Mary’s Church from Friday 5th – Monday 8th May to celebrate the Coronation, reflecting the interests and hobbies of our new king, Charles III. Free admission – within normal church opening times.
Restoration – On the Coronation of Charles III, we are proposing to launch the restoration of a large panel that celebrates the Restoration (Coronation) of Charles II. The painting is situated in St Mary’s, Fetcham’s parish church, and it is dated 1660. Please feel free to come and investigate our potential heritage restoration project and hear about the history of the panel.
The Big Help Out is an incentive from King Charles, and the objective is to raise awareness of volunteering throughout the UK and provide opportunities for people to experience volunteering and make a difference in their communities. Here at St Mary’s we would like to thank everyone who volunteers in any way, whether that’s within the church services or activities, or outside the church in many difference ways.
Thank you to Gill Hanson for all her hard work, who has for many years co-ordinated the laundry and alter frontal teams. Our additional thanks to Christine Martin who will lead the laundry.
Homemade Stall – Sun 7 May, 10.40 – 11.40am: We have a Coronation themed Homemade Stall this Sunday, as usual, in aid of Homework Clubs & apprenticeships in Nairobi’s slums. The May HMS is one of the biggest of the year with lots of plants for sale, as well as baking and crafts. If you are able to donate anything, we would be so grateful.
The HMS & second hand bookstall will be running as usual between 10.40 and 11.40am, but will be running again in the afternoon, when the Flower Festival and teas are open for visitors. This means we will have an even greater need for donations than usual. If you can possibly dig up a few pot plants, or make something, it will be hugely appreciated. Failing that, do come and browse! It’s for such a good cause.

Parochial Church Committee (PCC): At the APCM held on Sun 23 April, Pouya thanked those who stood down for their commitment: Ed Barron, Jacky Breadmore, Roger McKinlay, Adam Piggott and Mike Tuddenham. Four new members stood for election and one re-standing*: Bruce Callender, Geoff Gaskill, Val Hammond, Anita Hunt and Caroline Salmon*. The following continue to remain on PCC: Dean Beaumont, Meg Frost, Sue McKinlay, Martin Roberts, Graham Rosser, Tess Trewinnard and Iain Whitlam. There are two new Church Wardens: Corinne Braid and Richard Furze. Other ex-officio members are Nathan Ghinn and Julie Partridge, plus Deanery Synod members Nigel Hunt, Bill King and Chris Rickard – there is a vacancy for a further deanery representative.
Rector on the Run 2023 Ultramarathon – Sat 27 May: Pouya continues to train for his most challenging run yet – the London 2 Brighton Ultra Challenge taking place on Sat 27 May. It’s his first ever attempt at 100k (62.2 miles) and all money raised is going back to the Fetcham community. To find out more or to sponsor him visit : https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/rector-on-the-run-2023
New tables and chairs: We have taken delivery of 100 chairs and 10 foldable tables and we will be removing redundant ones as soon as we can. Please bear with us while we make arrangements. If you would like anything please let Karen in the office know asap before they find a new home!
Churchyard Working Party: A big thank you to all those who came along and helped keep our churchyard tidy up! The collaboration with 1st Fetcham Scout Group works really well as their number of willing young people assists the church volunteers, and they record their time toward community service aspects of badgework.
Coffee Stop – Thursdays, 9 – 10:30am: Looking for somewhere to go on Thursday mornings? Pop along to the Rumble Room at the Village Hall during school term time for a hot drink, something sweet and to have a chat. There’s a small play area for babies and toddlers. All are welcome!

Fetcham Festival – Sat 10 June, 12-4pm: We very much hope to have a presence at the forthcoming community event at Cock Lane Rec. We can only run these stalls if we have a team of willing volunteers to help on the day. Please let Karen know if you are able to spare an hour or maybe two to help, or if you have a gazebo we can borrow to protect us from the blistering sunshine! It really is a great opportunity to have a presence at this community event.

B@titude Job Opportunity: They are looking for one or possibly two people to join their growing team and they are now in the lovely position to be able to offer this job opportunity to the right applicant(s) for either one or two days with B@titude. Ideally it would be two days either filled by one person or the days split between two people. The main need we have is for someone to run the B@titude shop on a Thursday between 9.00am to 4.00pm, the other day would initially be coverage of the shop on a Wednesday for 6 months from September (2023) to February (2024); after which the 2nd day would be a Friday, which will enable us to open the shop on this day.
If you would like to know more or if you feel that this is something that could be for you or you know someone who may have an interest to be part of their team please feel free to get in touch with us at helllo@batitude.org or if you prefer you are welcome to pop into the shop, (our phone number 01372 374666), and they can give you a more detailed job description and answer any questions you have. On behalf of the B@titude team thank you for considering this and they look forward very much to hearing from you.
