St Mary’s Fun Day: Sat 4 Sept – We are looking forward to a great day at Elam Ministries and the weather forecast looks good! There’s something for everyone! Just sit and chat, play energetic (eg rounders, football) or not so energetic (eg petanque, croquet) games, enjoy the peace and quiet of the walled prayer garden or bounce on the bouncy castle (for adults and children alike) – the choice is yours! If you haven’t booked through My ChurchSuite, don’t worry, you can still come along. Join the day at anytime from 10am and we’ll finish around 3pm. The address is Elam Ministries, Grenville, Grenville Road, Shackleford, Godalming GU8 6AX. We’re providing sandwiches but you may wish to bring some food for your party. There are no shops nearby. Corinne’s mobile is 07710 260882 – just in case! Please bring garden chairs, drinks for your party and appropriate footwear – but please leave dogs at home.

Enjoy a coffee and a catch up too, now that we are cautiously back in the hall. We are hoping to raise lots of funds for The Centre for Urban Mission in Nairobi. Kenya has been very badly hit by the effects of the pandemic. Do please come along with your purses. We look forward to seeing you then!
Hidden Treasure Bible Study starting Thurs 9 Sept: This will be held on Thursdays (but not on the third Thursday of each month) at 11am in the church. We will be using the materials provided by the preaching team, which will follow on from the sermons on the first Sunday of each month. On other Thursdays, we will study topics of particular interest to group members. All are welcome.

Help wanted for NEW Lighthouse starting Fri 24 Sept, 3.30-5.30pm: Would you like to be involved in the start of a new exciting outreach to children and families in our community? The Families Team are planning to run a weekly after-school session for children in school years 3 – 6 (ages 7-11), called “The Lighthouse”, in between our monthly Messy Church services. We are very excited about this new venture, but we can only do it if we have the help and support of the church family. We need pairs of hands to help us set-up at the beginning, clear away at the end, help in the kitchen, sit and chat with the children. Even if you could only come once a month, that would be great! Contact families@stmarysfetcham.org.uk or phone Karen in the office to join us in this exciting new venture. We are aiming to start on Friday 24 September.

Bereavement Café at St Mary’s: Wed 6 Oct, 10-11.30am. Bereavement has been even more brutal than usual through the pandemic and we are aware that there are a lot of people struggling alone. We restarted the Bereavement Café last month, (having filled the gap with Walk and Talks) and hope to continue (Covid permitting) to have the Bereavement Café every first Wednesday of the month, 10-11.30 in the church hall. If you know people you feel would benefit from a friendly supportive environment and a chance to chat with other bereaved folk, then do feel free to invite them to come along.
Walk the Way 2021 Bishop of Guildford’s Communities Fund: Sat 9 Oct – Bishops Andrew and Jo are inviting you to join them on a sponsored walk to raise funds to help the disadvantaged and vulnerable across our diocese. Outreach
Accommodation for Afghan Refugess : The national church has been approached by the Home Office to help in the search for accommodation for Afghans who are seeking asylum in this country – most of whom worked for the UK government which is the primary reason for their needing to flee. They need self-contained accommodation that needs to have:
- AIl relevant certification in place (eg gas safety) and an energy performance rating of “E” or above)
- Available for letting for at least 12 months, preferably 24 months
- Ideally near good public transport links and within walking distance of main services and shops
- Available for rents at no more or close to Local Housing Allowance levels.
The Home Office resettlement scheme would meet the refugees’ immediate needs and would sort out the resettlement status of the families. It would be good if local churches were able to befriend the families and help their resettlement when they arrive. For more information please contact our Asylum Seeker Adviser diane.peters@cofeguildford.org.uk or Jo Sherring from Epsom & Ewell Refugee Network who is working with the Diane Peters from the diocese on sherringjoanna@gmail.com
