February 2023

The Way Forward Workshop – Sun 12 Feb, 12:30-2:30pm:  Help us build a picture of the sort of church you want us to be in 2028.  Not just the buildings but also:  How are we Growing Faith for all ages?  How can we be more Inclusive?  What will be our Digital offer?  How can we be Financially Sustainable?  We are meeting after services and will enjoy a sandwich lunch.  We look forward to gathering together and sharing ideas.

Family Fun – Half Term:  We are opening our doors for some drop-in sessions of Family Fun on Mon 13th 1:30-4:30pm and Tues 14th 9-12noon.  Come and stay with your family for FREE fun, play, games and community café (charges apply).

Youth Film Afternoon – Wed 15 Feb, 2-5pm:  During the half term we are having a film afternoon for any young people in school years 7-13!  It will be held at the church hall and will feature popcorn and other snacks to enjoy! Contact Nathan for more details! youth@stmarysfetcham.org.uk

Who Let The Dads Out?! – Sat 18 Feb, 9:30-11:30am:  Join us for our monthly, men’s Saturday morning get-together to enjoy bacon sandwiches, coffee and a chance to chat.  We meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month in the church hall.  You are welcome to come with or without children!  There are lots of activities to keep everyone occupied.  No charge, but donations welcome.

Welcome Breakfast – Sun 19 Feb, 9-11am:  We are delighted to warmly welcome all newcomers to a continental style breakfast at 3A The Ridgeway.  New members of our church family from all three Sunday services will have the chance to meet each other and chat with some St Mary’s regulars.  Children welcome.  Please park at the church and come across when you are ready, either before or after before your usual service.  To get an idea of numbers please sign up here, but you are welcome to just turn up on the day too!

Funeral of Dorothy Barr – Wed 22 Feb, 11:45am at Randalls Park Crematorium.  The invitation is extended to gather afterwards at the Running Horse in Leatherhead.

Youth Board Game Evening – Wed 22 Feb, 7:30-9pm:  A monthly board game cafe for older young people in school years 9+.  We will be keeping it cosy during the colder months with toast (with a variety of spreads!) and hot choc! Join us on the 4th Wednesday of the month in the church hall.

6 Nations Rugby – Sat 18 Mar, ko 5pm:  Everyone is invited to come and watch the 6 Nations England-v-Ireland rugby match in the church hall, offering a family-friendly space, with the enjoyment of a big screen and great atmosphere.  Please feel free to arrive before the 5pm kick off time, but you can join in at any time.  We are offering free hotdogs but please bring your own drinks.  To give us an idea of numbers please sign up, but come along on the day if you don’t get around to doing it.  This is a community event, so please bring your friends too!

Help needed alongside the Children & Families Team:  We are asking for more volunteers to help at Footprints Baby & Toddler Group, Messy Church and other new ventures as we look forward to growth and to the future.  You could help the existing team with coffee, chat with visitors or boost help where needed.  If you’re interested please speak to Hannah, our  Children and Families Worker, directly or email her on hannah@stmarysfetcham.org.uk

Ladies Loo Out Of Order: We are experiencing ongoing issues with the right hand ladies toilet.  A plumber is arranged to come and investigate the cause and we will endeavour to fix the problem as soon as we can.  In the meantime please use the other cubicle or the disabled toilet.  Thank you for your patience

The Community Coffee Shop BOGOF:  The special offer of a free drink when you buy filter coffee, tea or hot chocolate continues throughout February, so why not come along with a friend and have a catch up!   The team looks forward to welcoming you!

Lent Course ‘Beacon of Hope’ – Wed 1 Mar, 7:30-9pm:  Sharing faith is not easy.  It is natural to feel stressed even at the thought of doing it.  Natural conversations about faith in Jesus are always better than smooth, planned and robotic ones.  What is our part and what is God’s part when we are in a conversation about Jesus with someone?  Sharing faith doesn’t need to be difficult or awkward. This Lent Course aims to support us in a safe environment to reflect on the organic ways of ‘making Jesus known’.  Not as a burden or out of guilt but rather in a natural way.  We are looking forward to learning from one another about the joys and challenges of opening up to someone about Jesus.

You are aware that our overall theme for this year is “discipleship”.  Prayer is a big part of discipleship, so we have decided to change our time of communal prayer from Saturday morning to THREE different times during a month — in the hope that most people can use at least one of them.

We will use different ways of praying: one month we will concentrate on praying for the world, one month we might go outside into nature and simply praise God, another month we might pray silently.

In February we will pray with the theme “Keep it simple, keep it real, keep it up”.  The dates and times for February and March are:

    Tue 14 Feb – 9am                       Tues 14 March – 9am

    Wed 15 Feb – 7:30pm                Wed 15 March – 7:30pm

Each session will take place in the Lady Chapel and last 30 minutes.

All the facts, the dates and the times are on the notice board in church or on our website, where we can check them and remind ourselves.  They will be updated at the end of each month.
