Lent Course ‘Beacon of Hope’ – Wed 1 Mar, 7:30-9pm: Sharing faith is not easy. It is natural to feel stressed even at the thought of doing it. Natural conversations about faith in Jesus are always better than smooth, planned and robotic ones. What is our part and what is God’s part when we are in a conversation about Jesus with someone? Sharing faith doesn’t need to be difficult or awkward. This Lent Course aims to support us in a safe environment to reflect on the organic ways of ‘making Jesus known’. Not as a burden or out of guilt but rather in a natural way. We are looking forward to learning from one another about the joys and challenges of opening up to someone about Jesus.

Deanory Synod Meeting – Wed 1 Mar, 7-8:30pm on Zoom: With the 2030 deadline for Net Zero in our parish fast approaching, do you know an Infrared panel heater from a Ground Source Heat-pump? How much of the £190 million pounds set aside for decarbonising the Church of England will come to parishes, and how do you apply? For the answer to these and other ‘green’ church questions, come to the next Leatherhead Deanery Synod Zoom meeting on March 1st, where Alison Moulden, the Diocesan Environment Officer, will be giving vital information on Net Zero and Eco Church. Sign up on ChurchSuite and the link to the meeting will be issued to those registered.
World Day of Prayer – Fri 3 Mar: World Day of Prayer is an international, inter-church organisation which enables us to hear the thoughts of women from all parts of the world: their hopes, concerns and prayers. This year is prepared by Taiwan. There are two services locally to which you are invited, plus staying for refreshments afterwards:
10:30am – Church of the Holy Spirit, Fetcham
7:30pm – St Lawrence’s, Effingham.
Thursday Morning Coffee, Thurs 16 Mar, 10:30-11:30am: Meeting on the 3rd Thursday of the month, you are very welcome to join us for a cuppa and a chat. There is also an informal NHS hearing aid clinic where you can receive basic maintenance or change batteries. Please join us either after the 10am Holy Communion service, or just come along to the hall. Let us know if you require a lift.
Highway 35 Guest Speaker, Thurs 16 Mar, 7pm Fetcham Park House: You are invited to come along to a social evening hosted by Men’s Group, and open to all, and listen to an inspirational speaker, Chris & Denise Arthey, who will discuss his recent book Highway 35 – Muddy Pearl and their journey of hope against all odds, explaining how they rebuilt their lives, ‘step by step’ after their accident. Copies will be available for sale and signed by the authors. Arrive from 6:30pm to catch up with friends with drinks, ready for the talk at 7pm sharp. Please sign up here or contact the Parish Office. Numbers are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment. You are welcome to share the details with friends and neighbours. The Way Forward Workshop: Thank you to everyone who attended the workshop on Sun 12 Feb to help us build a picture of the sort of church you want us to be in 2028. Since then, a questionnaire has been send out to capture your views and input for the Strategy project to define the future for St Mary’s. Specifically, “How will St Mary’s develop sustainably for the next generations?” Whilst any member of the church family is welcome to complete the questionnaire, it is focussed on engaging with those who were unable to attend the Strategy Workshop. There are three sections to the questionnaire: 1. Your heart’s desires for St Mary’s, 2 Your view of the current status of St Mary’s and 3 Personal details. Please follow this link or there are paper copies in the back of church : Click here for Questionnaire
Family Fun Success: The two sessions held in half term were a great success and saw the hall full of families enjoying the activities and café. Thanks to everyone who was involved with the organisation or help on the day.
Ladies Loo Out Of Order: A plumber is arranged to come and investigate on Mon 27 Feb and we will endeavour to fix the problem as soon as we can. In the meantime please use the other cubicle or the disabled toilet. Thank you for your patience!
The Community Coffee Shop BOGOF: The special offer of a free drink when you buy filter coffee, tea or hot chocolate continues throughout February, so why not come along with a friend and have a catch up!
